Notes from Monday January 4, 2010

Our letter for the week Pp, so I decided our theme for the week will be Pooh Bear. The first thing this morning, while the kids were waiting for breakfast to get ready, I had Pooh Bear pictures for them to color.

Our breakfast casserole was a hit and on such a cold morning it was nice to have a hot hearty breakfast.

Each week I make a little book for the kids to take home filled with pages about the things we will be learning that week. This week's book had four songs in it that we will be singing this week - Jesus Made Me Just Like Him found here; Letter Pp Song; Do You Know the Pickle Man; and A Pretty Pink Pig found here.I also a included the Pp template, the color yellow page, a calender, and our sign language lesson for the week found at LessonTutor.com. After we went through the book together each child was able to color in their own books.

I went through these booklets again with the kids on evening shift although this time I didn't have them each color their own book.

Here are some of the books we enjoyed together today.

The Barnyard Mystery
While reading this book we also spent a lot of time naming the different animals, counting the animals and talking about the what colors they were and the sounds they made.

This is a great book for practicing identification of colors.

One of my goals for this year is to add more music to our days. Today we listened to

and one CD from this set.

We had eight children ages 1 - 10 on all shifts today.

Quiet Day

We had a rare day with no kids here in daycare.

I spent a good part of the day working on preparing crafts and restocking the collage box with fun collage materials. We had quite a few half used sticker sheets that had been sitting on the shelf for a long time. I cut the individual stickers out and added them to the collage box. I also cut out some shapes from construction paper and put them in the box. The last thing I added was a small container of foam shapes. Austin helped me out with some of the cutting and his help was much appreciated.
